Become: Become is the national charity for children in care and young care leavers. Their vision is that care-experienced people have the same chances as everyone else to live happy, fulfilled lives. They provide advice and support to care-experienced young people and work alongside them to improve the care system.
Coram Voice: Learn about what care leavers say makes their lives good and what can make a difference to their well-being based on Coram Voice's Bright Spots research and the perspectives of their Care Experienced Consultants.
Summary of meeting:
What makes life good for young people leaving care? What are the main concerns post-pandemic? And what does the changing context mean for the focus of our funding?
Young people and staff from these expert leading charities will draw on research and lived experience to share their insight into the factors that promote wellbeing for young people leaving care. With ongoing challenges to finances, housing, relationships and mental health, we will discuss issues looking beyond the pandemic on young people leaving care, and the potential future impact.
Young people's own experiences are the key to shape our response. We are pleased to be welcoming care-experienced consultants from Coram Voice and Become to discuss the implications for independent funding and whether we now need to re-evaluate our approach.
