DEI learning series: equitable funding practice

Join us for an interactive learning session which will explore ways of embedding an equity approach into funding practice, using participatory grant-making as a key example.

This session is aimed at grant-makers who are keen to embed an equity-led approach into their funding practice. We will situate the current discourse around equitable funding practice by looking at a brief history of grant-making and hone in on some key concepts around power, equity and participation that have been widely discussed in recent years.

Participants will get an overview of different models and approaches that have been developed by grant-makers to build an equity-led approach into their practice such as full cost funding, funder plus models or trust-based philanthropy.

Among those, we will hone in on participatory grant-making as a widely recognised approach to embed more equitable practice in grant-making. This is an opportunity to learn from grant-makers who have applied participatory models and practices in their own work and who can speak about the nuance and possibilities of doing so in different contexts. Together, we will look at what challenges have surfaced and how you might go about introducing or deepening participation in your funding practice, whether that is a fully fledged participatory grant-making model or incorporating participation in other ways.

In this interactive learning session, you will:

  • Learn about key concepts, approaches and current discourse related to equitable funding practice
  • Hear from a participatory grant-making expert about key challenges, opportunities and new experiments within this approach
  • Have an opportunity to connect with peers interested in embedding more participation into their funding practice
  • Formulate actionable and pragmatic steps to apply some of these ideas in your context
  • Identify allies and leverage points in your sphere of influence
