DEI learning series: Accountability and stakeholder engagement

Join us for an interactive workshop exploring how accountability and stakeholder engagement can support more equitable grant-making and strengthen foundations' relationships with the communities they serve.

Accountability is a central component of equitable practice.

For trusts and foundations, this means moving beyond transparency alone and considering how organisations create meaningful opportunities for dialogue, feedback and influence with the people and communities affected by their work.

This interactive workshop will explore accountability as a practical tool for strengthening relationships, improving decision-making and increasing the effectiveness of funding approaches. Participants will consider how accountability differs from transparency and examine why both concepts play distinct roles in responsible and equitable grant-making.

The session will help participants explore accountability through the lens of power, examining the unique role foundations play within wider systems of change and how they can use their influence responsibly. Drawing on established models and practical examples, participants will be supported to reflect on how accountability can be embedded within their own role, team or organisation.

The workshop will also examine stakeholder engagement from an equity perspective and consider how foundations can use assets beyond money to support impact. This includes sharing knowledge, relationships, infrastructure, influence and learning in ways that strengthen partnerships and help create more effective and equitable outcomes.

Through facilitated discussion, practical exercises and peer learning, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their current approach, learn from others and identify practical steps to strengthen accountability and engagement within their organisation.
